MY ROLE

SENIOR UX DESIGNER - WEALTH MANAGEMENT

Worked with other UX Designers, Product Managers, Researchers, and Content Writers to create the best design solutions for users across genres looking to manage their wealth.

Collaborate to design dashboard, navigation structures and other assets contributing to BMO Online Banking, BMO Smartfolio, IPO Notifications, and internal Design System used across service departments.

Communicated regularly with cross-functional team on all information obtained from observational studies, usability testing and other customer research initiatives.
Customer Insights & Ideation
I partnered with one project manager, a visual design, content writer, researcher and a team lead (in a Pod), to uncover insights and translate concepts into features to address the customers journey
Experience Strategy & Vision
I created wireframes and prototypes to share the vision, design principles and content strategy. This helped to evangelize ideas, gain alignment and drive decision making.
Design Execution & Validation
I designed for Desktop, Laptop, Tablets and Mobile friends devices. I executed journeys, wireframes, prototypes and design specs inline with the evolving internal Design System.

THE CHALLENGE

How do we bring our users into One View Banking so they can see and manage their finances and future goals across our products and services?

There are retail banking services, investment banking, wealth management, online trading and retirement planning.
Each customer have different needs, but most will use multiple features so the experience need to be consistent and seamless, where possible, to delight the users and encourage them to try other services.

Partnering with the Research and Data Analyst teams

to dig deeper into insights to help guide design decisions was

a critical part of the collaboration process.

THE APPROACH

By creating design 'stencils' we were able to move fast while not initially spend lots of time creating throw-aways.
Stencils are great for placeholder and for page structure without committing, but they should follow some form of standards. In this case, they were based on elements from the design system.

While we ideated, I was able to create several screens which we were able to "swap out" the stencils using components of the design system.

In addition to page structure, design components and other assets, I worked with our in-house illustrator to come up with illustrations for errors, blank states, and messaging. All illustrations are reviewed by a larger team before final approval and adding them to our design system as visual components.

CARD SORTING
We conducted several sessions of user testing via card sorting using Optimal Workshop online platform.

Card sorting is a research technique that helps you discover how people understand and categorize information, and ensures you create an information architecture that matches users’ expectations. In a card sort, participants sort labeled cards into groups. You can then use the results of your participants’ card sorts to give you ideas about how to group and label the information on your website* or product in a way that makes the most sense to your audience.
